Ok, school is out and at some point this weekend I do hope to do some actual sewing! I've spent the last few days kind of "decompressing" and also trying to clean my house - wow, what a dive! Things get a little out of hand when you only do serious cleaning during July and August. LOL
Also on Wednesday I went across the border to Maine with a friend and bought some CHEAP fabric and "Warm n' Natural" cotton batting. Americans don't know how lucky they have it when it comes to the price of quilting supplies, and most other things for that matter. Yeesh! The same quilt batting that costs $21.99/yard here was $6.97.yard at Walmart across the border. Also I got a lot of the fabric for $1.99...holy mackerel! Even with having to pay the duty at the border you still come out way ahead.
I'm getting way behind in the Old Red Barn quilt-along not just because I've been so busy, but also because I'm very scared to try the free-motion quilting! I hate doing something and not having it turn out well, even it if is the first time I've ever tried it. Perfectionism=procrastination I guess.

Today is the big day, graduation is tonight. I will be running around like a chicken with my head cut off all day, and it's not over until nearly midnight! Then tomorrow is a half-day and then I'm FREE!!!!!
On Friday I bought a copy of Kaffe Fassett's "Kaleidoscope of Quilts"...wow there are some quilts in there I'd really love to make. I noticed that in the instructions they actually show EXACTLY which fabrics to order to replicate the quilts, complete with the product number, which is kind of neat.

Went to the fabric store today...main reason was to get some satin to make the "King and Queen" sashes for the Prom on Friday night. This has been my job every year since I started at my school. While I was there I bought some plain yellow cotton, so I can try doing a "Grandmother's Flower Garden" pattern with my vintage repro fabrics for the hexagon quilt-along. I also broke down and bought some Warm 'n' Natural batting so I can move forward with the Old Red Barn quilt-along, even though it costs $21.99 per metre and I could get it for half that price if I waited until a week from Thursday when I'm going across the border to Marden's. I am not good at waiting patiently.

This is graduation week and I teach grade twelve, and I'm also in charge of the reception after the grad ceremony...I have a three page to-do list. Yowza. Sadly, sewing didn't even make the list.
But next Tuesday is the last day for teachers, and on Thursday of next week I'm heading across the border to Calais (Maine) with a friend who also quilts, to buy some cotton quilt batts (half the price we'd pay here!) and look for fabric. Road trip!
I can't do any more on my quilt-along project until I get the batting anyway.
